Instead of paying Daniel an amount each day, the key to this puzzle is to use transactions in order to pay Daniel the correct amount.
Make your two cuts in the gold bar so that you have three pieces of lengths 1/7, 2/7 and 4/7. For ease of explanation, I’ll call these pieces 1, 2 and 4. The payment schedule is then as follows:
Day One: Pay Daniel 1 (+1)
Day Two: Take back 1 and pay Daniel 2 (+2)
Day Three: Pay Daniel 1 (+3)
Day Four: Take back 1 and 2 and pay Daniel 4 (+4)
Day Five: Pay Daniel 1 (+5)
Day Six: Take back 1 and pay Daniel 2 (+6)
Day Seven: Pay Daniel 1 (+7)
